In 2023, I made the pivotal decision to move from the north of Iran to Shiraz, a city renowned for its rich cultural and artistic heritage, in order to refine my artistic vision and deepen my understanding of art. Drawn to the serenity and timeless beauty of Shiraz’s gardens, I spent countless days sketching their landscapes in small-scale studies.

This practice became a transformative experience, teaching me to observe nature with a fresh perspective. Instead of being consumed by details, I began to focus on the interplay of surfaces, shadows, light, and the simplicity of forms. This journey has profoundly shaped my artistic approach, allowing me to see the essence of the world around me with greater clarity.

At the end of this journey, I wanted to evaluate my growth and abilities in nature painting. To do so, I selected my favorite sketch and re-created it on a larger canvas, incorporating more details to bring the scene to life with newfound depth and precision.

Blueprints of nature

This collection focuses on practicing composition, exploring how light and shadow interact, and examining the relationship between human-made objects and natural forms. Using the cyanotype printing process, l worked on arranging elements to create balance and structure while observing how light affects textures and contrasts.
Through this process, I connected with the techniques of early photographers who used light-sensitive liquids and experimented with exposure. By combining natural elements with man-made objects, I aimed to show the contrast and connection between humans and nature.

Traces of LeWitt and Murakami

Medium: pen on paper
size: 50cm x 70cm
These pieces explore the intricate relationship between geometric forms and nature, incorporating inspiration from Sol LeWitt's sculptures, which l encountered at the Contemporary Art Museum in Tehran. These sketches are drawn on the remnants of a damaged copy of Men Without Women by Haruki Murakami, a book that had lost half its pages, leaving it fragmented and incomplete. The use of these torn pages as a canvas ties the work to themes of impermanence and reconstruction.

Mom’s work, Dog’s watch

This piece captures a moment in my grandparents' garden during Norouz, the Iranian New Year.
Despite feeling down, my mother spent the day pruning trees and cutting weeds, symbolizing renewal and resilience.
I used a film photograph and added scratches and expressive lines to amplify the raw emotions of the scene. The cold, early spring weather contrasts with the warmth of Norouz, while my dog's gaze adds a personal, nostalgic touch. This work reflects strength in life's transitions and the beauty of everyday acts of care.
